ABOUT
Born in New York City and raised in Brooklyn for most of her life, Charulata has always had a solid foundation in media arts and creative writing. Inspired by the diverse culture in which she was raised, as well as having alopecia, her work has become an expression and celebration of differences and learning. Starting out in the N.Y.C. independent film scene after graduating high school, Charulata began working various jobs in the industry. She did everything from scaling film equipment up city buildings, lighting, production assisting or just finding a specific brand of orange juice for the talent. It wasn’t until college that she discovered her passion for photography.
Her specialty is working with alternative processes, both traditional and digital. Using materials such as tiles, wood, canvas, and metal in combination with her images, her affinity for alternative processes has become an integral exploration of her fine artwork. Charulata is an educator in Media Arts, creative arts and eduation.
. She is the founder and director of Revolution Me Media Lab, a non-profit arts education program. Currently, she is pursuing a P.h.D. in Teaching & Learning at NYU in Urban Education specifically in arts education and media literacy being taught to individuals in vulnerable situations.
Charu is also a professional novice in reiki and integrated energy healing, as well as Jytoisha astrology passed down from her ancestral lineage,
